Sony Bravia tvs have a very good reputation as far as TV’s go and the Sony KDL32W550 0U is the latest model in this range. This is a top-of-the range TV with a standard’20×1080p Full HD panel. The “W” series was the first of these to employ this technology.

These feature full LCD television sets are very affordable and this particular KDL32W550 0U model has 4 HDMI inputs as well as Applicast, which enables the unit to be connected to the internet. A USB port allows for handling of all types of photo, video or music files and it also comes with an Ethernet jack with which DLNA PC files can be stored, or can be used for the Applicast service.

100Hz Motionflow and the Bravia engine image technology are also featured and apparently this is one of the many features of this feature-rich unit that makes the KDL32W550 0U so good. The fact that retailers can’t sell enough of these television sets must mean they are a good buy.

The KDL32W550 0U screen is 32″ framed by an attractive black bezel. This surface is shiny, so take care for scratching. The television set is packaged with protecting covers on all scratchable surfaces, so at least it will arrive, delivered in good condition. Glossy surfaces look good and are easy to clean, but if they scratch, they scratch, we have live with this with our mobile phones, but this is par for the course with heavy usage.

The KDL32W550 0U is definitely a compact unit so it is ideal if you don’t want a tv to dominate the room. Let’s face it, most of us girls don’t want the kind of TV that does this. We want something that looks good and serves its specific purpose. I have read reviews that say the Sony 32E5500 looks better but I really don’t believe this is true.

Most of the menus on Sony Sets are of the “Wega Gate” variety, the KDL32W550 0U differs in that the menu is represented by icons. These closely resemble the icons used by the Playstation 3. It is a far more inventive user interface, I like it but others may disagree and might prefer the more traditional type of menu with a faster response time.

If you are a techie, you won’t have a problem with the menus, but my 75 year old father may have difficulty in knowing what the heck is going on. Then again it is highly unlikely he is going to go out and purchase one of these KDL32W550 0U TV’s, he reckons the Sony he already has, must last him for the rest of his life, and it is after all a Sony, so it more than likely will.

The video processor on the KDL32W550 0U works fine as far as I am concerned, I don’t really know much about the technicalities of this. So read the tech specs if you want to know more. Mine works, the picture is fine and I get a fantastic quality picture with videos and DVD’s on Thursday night Chick Flick night, so I am more than happy!

From one girl to another, this KDL32W550 0U television set looks great with my decor, it works fine once you have mastered the icons on the menu. It is simple to dust and keep clean and it fills that empty corner in the left hand side of my room that was disturbing my Feng Shui balance.
