In’07 Katharina Houghton Hepburn was born in Hartford, Connecticut to a mother who was a feminist as well as suffragist and a father who was a doctor leading the way in STD prevention. Katharine Hepburn is considered the best actress in the world by many and while she many longer be with us today, she is still loved.
Katharine’s parents allowed her and her five siblings to enjoy their childhood freely and as such this helped with the development of her acting skills early on in life. While she never did any acting in childhood, she would one day become the greatest. She graduated from the Bryn Mawr College in’28 which after she would marry Ludlow Smith whom she met while attending the school.
Their marriage ended in’34 by divorce, but this was just one of the events that helped mold her talents. When she was still attending college, she also took performing arts for which she was in 2 productions while still in school. Shortly after graduating though she landed a role in the Broadway musical The Big Pond where she appeared in only one show.
While appearing in the musical The Warrior’s Husband on Broadway, a talent scout found her and set her up for a screen test. She won the role in the film A Bill of Divorcement that changed her life forever. The following year in’33, she would take a role in the film Morning Glory (a film that you can still get hold of today at Movies from Netflex) for which she would receive an Academy Award for.
Of course she missed Broadway so at the end of’33 she returned to appear in the musical The Lake, but unfortunately this turned out to be a big mistake because it was not received well. She finally decided to return to Hollywood in’35, but because of the Broadway flop and her time gone, she was not able to land anything good.
All that changed in’38 with the film The Philadelphia Story which she turned into a musical. She would continue on working between Hollywood and Broadway for most of her life and receive Academy Awards one right after another. She also won the Lifetime Achievement Award as well. Her last film was a guest appearance in’94 and on June 29th of 2003, Katharine Hepburn would pass a way having lived to be 96 years old.
