It was a near-freezing Thursday in 1938 when a festival that honored the peanut was inaugurated. Back then, the event lasted for three days and it included a pageant, a parade, a historical play, and a grand ball. Until 1941, it was celebrated annually, until the war put a halt to the festivities. It resumed in full in 1947.

The Chamber of Commerce could no longer sponsor or oversee the event in 1952, so it was a significant year for the peanut. To help finance the annual event, it was decided that a carnival would be added. The peanut festival from then on has included a plethora of other events, like the ever-present craft show.

Various people of wonderful skills show off an amazing repertoire of talents in the arts and crafts during the craft show held during the peanut festival.
