Age was not a deterrent for Taylor Swift. As a neophyte in the music scene, she was able to earn the praise and respect of her peers in the business. Not to mention the admiration of hordes of fans. This young superstar was able to win Album of the Year from the Academy of Country Music Awards.

When she broke out in the music scene, Taylor Swift immediately showed great potential to be a certified hit maker. Due also to the fact that she writes her songs and she plays the guitar well, she was able to sell herself a true-blue country music artist. This she proved once again when she made a big hit out of the first single of her second album Love Story.

Love Story is the carrier single of her Fearless album. This song is about a forbidden love between two young people. It refers to the tragic love story of Romeo and Juliet. In the song, the girl, which is obviously Taylor, is troubled because of the hindrances to her love for Romeo. Daddy doesn’t approve of Romeo and wants him to stay away from Juliet. She sings about wanting to go somewhere they can both be alone.

She narrates how she met Romeo at a dance, where he made his way through a crowd just to say hello to her. Since Daddy doesn’t want her to be with Romeo, she sneaks out to the garden to rendezvous with her love and begs him not to go away.

The forbidden love was too much to bear for Juliet because people were telling her how she should feel. But despite all that, she remains hopeful and faithful to their love for each other. But as every deep feelings are meant to end up, Juliet started to lose faith in the love because she got tired of waiting for Romeo.

The allusion to the classic Shakespearian play was a wise choice for the singer/songwriter. It gave the words to her song something tangible for the audience. While there is nothing wrong about singing about your love story, it would be nice to have something that your audience will be able to relate to. Obviously, the targeted audience here is young girls-girls who may not have experienced the kind of love the story is conveyed in the song. By using the characters of Romeo and Juliet as references, the audience will be able to relate better.

In this case, it doesn’t really matter if you understand and relate to the song well. What matters is that you take the song as a whole. The sing is great; that is an undeniable fact. Good writing combined with great melody and interpretation.

Nothing else needs to be said. Taylor Swift scores another hit with this song. Love Story is relevant. It talks about something that touches the hearts of the audience, has catchy music and was sung with the gusto of a young girl in love.
