The L. E. “Gus” and Eva Shafer Memorial Art Gallery is considered as the Gem of the Campus at the Barton County Community College. Mrs. Eva Shafter had a grand opening for the gallery last November 1, 1992. The gallery is committed in the preservation of our culture and art.

In Hoisington Kansas Leonard E. Gus Shafer was born on January 23, 1907. Gus loved the old west. His love for the old west was greatly influenced by Old Ben and his grandfather. Old Ben was one of their farm help that taught him how to hunt, trap and ride.

The Volcano Art Center is at Kilauea, the place of Pele the volcano goddess. The volcano is a dynamic and powerful volcano that changes the land form every time it has an action. From this dynamic quality the communities surrounding the volcano derives their culture and history.

The Volcano Art Center was created to promote, develop, and perpetuate the artistic and cultural heritage of Hawaii’s people and environment and this vision is put into life through the activities in the visual, literary, and performing arts. Their members are composed of artists, performers, writers, scientists and educators. VAC presents different variety shows, craft shows and fairs every year to promote their vision and culture.

There are one or two important factors in making your small business successful it is by creating a business net work and promoting your craft. But before doing this you will need to accept the fact that to have sales you will need to know how to sell your product. Remember we do not only make good crafts but we will need to sell it too.

In order to have a venue of Scottish gathering and games the Hawaiian Scottish Association was created on 1981. This gave the Scottish community in Hawaii to attend activities and games that will celebrate their culture and heritage.

One of the ways the Hawaiian Scottish Association will celebrate their culture and heritage is by sponsoring the 28th Annual Hawaiian Scottish Festival on April 4, 2009. The 28th Annual Hawaiian Scottish Festival will be held at the Willows 901 Hausten Street from 5:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. There are a lot of activities that you will get to enjoy on like beer sampling, Scotch Tasting, all-you-can-eat Pupus, Scottish Music by the local and national artists, Bagpipers and Scottish Dancers.
