Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief is finally on DVD. This movie really has a Harry Potter vibe to it, but that is probably related to the fact that director was also the director in the first Harry Potter movie. This movie was based off the book series by Rick Riordan, which could mean there may be future movies. This movie had a doable plot, enjoyable characters, and an adventure through history with a modern element. Don’t miss out on your copy today.

The plot involves a demigod named Percy and his best friend who happens to be a satyr. Accompanied by Athena’s daughter the three of them are hunting down Pearls than can transport a person anywhere, since Percy’s mother was kidnapped and taken to Hades. So you get a chance to find out if Percy’s mother gets rescued by the trio and who Percy’s paternal being really is.

The characters in the movie are likeable. Percy comes off as the average guy that most can relate to, the satyr is good friend and loyal protector, and Athena’s daughter is full of sass and wits. The three of them just work well together. And there are lots of characters that are from mythological creatures, so in a way children get some of a mythological lesson.

There are some nice action scenes in the movie, but it still teaches you a lot of history. They mention certain mythological beings such as Hades and Medusa. Part of learning about the myths is finding about the Underworld, the location of the kidnapped mother. But instead of going back into history, they find the entrance here in the United States.

If you are looking for a new series that is good for the children and the family don’t miss this one. This would be a 4 out of 5 for me. Good movie with a fun adventure, mixed with mythology.
