Hollywood directors are always over enthusiastic to make sequel to a successful movie. The hugely popular animation film ‘Ice Age’ was followed by its sequel within a short period of time. The sequels are generally not as popular as the first edition. But the third Ice Age movie removes all these notions. It has introduced some new characters and the world class animation is a visual treat.

The original star cast is retained - Manny (Ray Romano), Diego (Denis Leary), Ellie (Queen Latifah) and the lovable Sid (John Leguizamo). The third edition creates a spring feeling with love blossoming all around. This is a departure from the earlier episode where snows, ice and glacial meltdowns formed the backdrop of the movie. We find Manny pre-occupied with Ellie who is expecting their first baby. Diego - the sharp toothed tiger and Sid - the bumbling sloth getting very upset about the developments. Both of them feel that Manny is ignoring them. A despondent Diego decides to leave and Sid plans to start his own family.

But Sid has a problem. He needs a she-sloth to cohabit which is difficult to find. He chances upon some abandoned eggs and decides to steal them. But little does he know that these eggs belong to a forever annoyed mother dinosaur that arrives on the scene shortly. Within hours of hatching from the eggs the baby dinos exhibit alarming mammal eating tendencies. The T-Rex mother loses no time in grabbing the babies and the Sid by their neck and takes them into an underground world which is inhabited by dinosaurs, carnivorous plants and a weasel named Buck.

Then, somewhat predictably, Manny and others run in to save their dear friend Sid. They enter the primitive underground world and a series of adventure begins. There is a funny one liner thrown in here when they encounter the dinosaurs - “I thought they were extinct.” There is a colors festival on display in the underground adventures with some really adorable creatures for company. Some particulars from the previous Ice Age movie like balancing rocks are incorporated here.

In case you are wondering, the film has not forgotten Scrat the squirrel who is all the more energized to run after the elusive acorn. But this time he has a rival! A female squirrel, scratte, offers a romantic angle to the quest.

The level of animation gets heightened by a few notches in this movie. The animators do a good job in this movie as the mammoth looks life like and seem to come out of the screen. However, the dinosaurs needed a little bit of more detailing but that can be easily overlooked.

Ice Age movie is renowned for world class action and comedy scenes. This claim is further strengthened by the last hour of the movie with edge of the seat scenes. But I am not going to give away the ending so easily. Go and check out the movie in the nearest theater or if you prefer you can watch Ice Age online free. This is a movie which will fill your moment with loads of laughter and joy and should bring smiles to the faces of the young kids.
