For a powerful and up close and personal look into the life of the ocean and it’s inhabitants, Disneys Oceans is the movie to see. It was released to theaters on Earth Day 2010 by the Disneynature Studio. Disneynature is the same company who released the critically acclaimed movie “Earth” in 2009.

The film was directed by Jacques Perrin and Jacques Cluzaud. It was narrated by British actor Pierce Brosnan, who is famous for his role as special agent James Bond in the 007 movie series. He is also an avid environmentalist. The movie was produced by Romain LeGrand. Disney Channel teen stars Demi Lovato and Joe Jonas recorded the hit song “Make A Wave” for the film’s soundtrack. That would take twenty days straight to watch! It took another year after filming was complete to edit the footage down to the length of a regular feature film.

This movie is intended to answer one innocent question. What is an ocean? The answer is a complex ecosystem that has so many facets that all intertwine in a fierce yet delicate way. The directors felt there was no better way to answer this than to take the audience on a thrilling adventure underwater where they can float above a coral reef, glide through the water amongst dolphins, and sit side by side with a walrus nursing her cub.

They also wanted to show a true depiction of the damage humans have inflicted on this resource. They have shown the devastating effects of certain selfish practices such as over-fishing, over-developing, and pollution. In order to appreciate water, they wanted people to realize that without it, human, plant, and animal life definitely can not be sustained.

The sea’s resiliency was also demonstrated in several scenes. It’s evident that there are marine creatures that are tenacious and will not give up without a struggle despite the human inflicted elements against them. It was reassuring to them to find these remote areas where life proved to be resilient and determined to survive.

Disneys Oceans is a heartfelt journey that will leave anyone who sees it breathless, touched, and inspired all at once. Stunning quality puts the viewer seemingly right in the film. It’s a stunning tribute to nature and the unstoppable force that it is. It’s inspirational message is sure to touch all who experience it.
