The only person who shows full faith in billy is his ballet teacher who has an intuition that there is a great future awaiting Billy. She takes it up on herself to train him.

Finally the day arrives for Billy to go to London to audition, after all the practise, the town comes together to help him set off on his quest. Another character in the play is Billy’s best friend, who dresses up in his sister’s clothes. At one point, the grandmother gives up her shabby housecoat to shake a leg during the play. Billy’s mother’s ghost too makes an appearance or two. The songs are pretty groovy.
