The didgeridoo, or more commonly known as the didge, is an Aboriginal musical instrument that can be considered a “drone pipe” in some cases. Thought to be the world’s oldest musical instrument, natives acquired the didgeridoo by the grace of the lowly termite, which hollows out the center of the branch and creates the cavity needed for the sound to be produced. Thus, didgeridoos were also considered as “natural” musical instruments, since no human intervention was added; aside from selecting the branch itself; cutting and shaping it into the more familiar figure of a hollow stick.
